Sunday Funday....TMD WHUT!

Mark Henare (Dskyes / Mark TMD FDKNS) asked a brotogrpaher for some help with an upcoming competition he is entering and being the top bloke I am I was more than happy to help. It was a bit of leaning curve for me as my previous experience is mainly in editorial and street doco style photogrpahy which I have since come to realise is a heap of redundant terminology that I hide behind so that I don't step beyond my comfort zone. So we used the Urban Development studio as a base of operations and while we shot a few of the TMD members prepped boards for our upcoming show and Askew used his skills as a videographer to put together something special for the masses.

The shoot was awesome, the shots are slick and the team I worked with operated like a peice of finely crafted and tuned German machinery. I would love to post the shots but I haven't cleared them but keep an eye out :) I have to give massive thanks to Lucko (Luckophotography.com) for all the experience over the years with lighting - I'm a way off from his skills but he has given mwe the platform and the mindset to not be afraid of the studio light. Also have to say thanks HEAPS to Leilani what a champ of a model - I ask for a look and she exceeds my expectations.

Later that day I tagged along with the crew whilst they did some interior decorating at ONE on K Road (shot scrappy) along with some other good buddies. I have to say there is nothing like sitting in a confined space with spray can fumes - wooohoooo.... The throwies were sweet and we even had a guest appearance from the past. GO THE SCRUB FILL!!!

PHAT1 & Nesian Tattoo

Two artists, two different fields - both are awesome guys.

Joe Brown is responsible for the sleave I have and Phats is a legend and he always has time to let me tag along and document his work. So when he asked if I would be keen to get flicks of his work at Joe's I was already in my car with my camera packed and ready.

If there's one thing I have learnt about Joe it's that he's more than open to ideas that fall outside the norm as far as traditional polynesian tattooing goes and that can lead to some amazing work as a result (the work on my arm is testimony to this). His studio is filled with photos of his clients and the work he has done for them along with the coolest collection of Rugby League team photos, Island knick knacks and the coolest examples of Bruce Lee retouches I have seen ever.

Phats took to finishing a wall he had started last year and the mix of Polynesian motifs and styles match the work the man himself has collected on this arms and legs. Clean and sharp are hallmarks of his style and the huge Turtle he painted will make a fine addition to my shoulder - right Joe? :)
