So lastnight the Society decided to hit central city and take in some of the old haunts. Grey Lynn holds special significance to the Pacific Community given it was one of the first areas many settled in when they first arrived back in the 1970's. The old shops and the open dairys are cool targets for my camera.
K Road is just one of those places that you have to wander along at some point in your stay in Auckland - it's just a cool place to see some really wierd things - like dudes loaded down with camera gear hiding in doorways hahah :)
My wife and I attend a boxing for fitness class held regularly on Sunday mornings at Villis gym on Great South Road in Takanini. Kevin Kuresa who runs the classes is a hard but fair taskmaster and if you feel like hitting the pads (and maybe some friends) check it out!
I went along to watch and snap some shots. I managed to stuff up my shoulder earlier on in the month and so now I'm stuck on the sidelines.
The Society got together lastnight for our regular weekly wandering and we chose Otahuhu as our destination of choice. Now I am no fan of the place - I'm being upfront and honest here but the place has never really appealed to me. Growing up the place has always been somewhere my parents made me go to get bits and pieces for events I never wanted to part of - like White Sundays, Weddings and Funerals. Probably not fair to place my negative associations with a whole suburb.
Word of warning - if you intend to shoot anything at night by the old main street bring filters - the hideous yellow lighting they use makes everything look like it's from the 70's.
Having said that though the one thing I will always remember in a positive light will be the statue of the mounted soldier that stands at the southern end of town - always thought it would be cool to come back and try and get the rifle of his back when I was a kid. Youthful indescretions and all that :)
